THE LILY

The lily is a flower of great meaning in Christian symbology connected with purity and rebirth. According to legend the lily sprang from the tears of Eve as she and Adam were expelled from the Garden of Eden.

In medieval art it is often associated with Mary and the Annunciation, possibly because its trumpet shape denotes an announcement.
